Something off? Let’s fix it.

Most things people email about have a 30-second fix. Start below. If that doesn’t sort it, there’s a real person one tap away.

Talk to a human

Email us. A real person reads every one.

We’re a small team — no ticket bot, no canned reply. One of us reads what you send and writes back. We can’t promise a time (we’d rather not lie about it), but nothing lands in a black hole.

Quick fixes for the usual suspects.

My alarm didn't go off

First, the big one: are you on iOS 26 or newer? There, Rizen fires a real system alarm that gets through Silent mode, Focus, and DND even if the app is force-quit. On older iOS (16.4–18) it leans on a redundant burst of notifications — and those can’t punch through Silent mode or a Focus. Check, in order:

  1. Flip the physical silent switch on the side of your iPhone off (ringer on). On notification-backed iOS this is the #1 cause.
  2. Turn off any Focus or Sleep schedule active at wake time, or allow Rizen through it.
  3. Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ Rizen— Allow Notifications on, Sounds on.
  4. Turn the ringer volume up. Notification sound follows the ringer, not the media slider.
  5. Then prove it: open the app’s Settings and tap Test alarm in 10s. If that fires, your real alarm will too.
A mission won't complete or keeps rejecting me
  • QR scan only accepts the exact code Rizen made for you. Screenshots and random QR codes are built to fail — use your printed code in decent light.
  • Photo: recreate the scene live (same spot, same framing). An old shot from your camera roll won’t pass. Keep failing? Rizen eases up after repeated misses so you’re never stuck.
  • Math: if it’s brutal at 6am, lower the difficulty or problem count in the alarm’s settings.
  • Camera mission doing nothing? Camera permission is probably off — see Permissions in the FAQ below.

And if a mission is truly broken at ring time, press-and-hold Emergency Exit for 5 seconds and confirm. It breaks your streak, but it gets you out.

My QR code won't scan
  1. Use the code Rizen made for you — the one you printed and put across the room. It’s cryptographically signed, so a screenshot or any other QR won’t work, by design.
  2. Light it up. A dim bedroom is the usual culprit; turn on a lamp or step toward one.
  3. Hold steady about a phone’s-length away until it locks on.
  4. Check the print: not too small, not creased over the code, not glossy-glare.
  5. Camera permission: Settings ▸ Rizen ▸ Cameramust be on. If it’s off, the mission falls back to Math so you’re not trapped.
My NFC tag won't read
  1. Tap the top of your iPhone to the tag — the NFC antenna is up near the cameras, not the middle.
  2. Hold it there a beat; don’t swipe past.
  3. Skip metal surfaces — a tag on a metal fridge can get blocked. Try a cabinet door or the side of the coffee machine.
  4. Make sure it’s a writable NFC tag and that you finished setup in the app.
  5. NFC permission needs to be allowed. If it isn’t, the mission falls back to Math so you still wake up.
I lost a streak and I don't think I should have

A streak counts consecutive days you woke up the honest way. It breaks for exactly three reasons: you used Emergency Exit, you didn’t finish (or failed) a mission, or you skipped a day with no successful wake. Nothing else touches it.

If none of those happened and the number still dropped, that’s a bug and we want it. Email us with the date and what your morning looked like. Heads up: everything lives on your device, so we can’t see your streak from here — your details are what let us figure it out.

The alarm is too quiet
  1. Turn up the ringer volume (the buttons while nothing’s playing, or Settings ▸ Sounds & Haptics). Alarm and notification sound follow the ringer, not the media volume.
  2. Turn off Change with Buttonsif you keep knocking it down by accident (same Sounds & Haptics screen).
  3. On iOS 16.4–18, keep the silent switch off — there a muted ringer means a muted alarm.
  4. Run Test alarm in 10s at the volume you sleep at, so there are no surprises.

Don’t take our word for it

Prove it’ll fire tonight, while you’re still awake.

Open the app’s Settings and tap Test alarm in 10s. It runs the real thing — sound, mission, all of it — so you know it works before you trust it with tomorrow. If the test fires but your morning alarm doesn’t, it’s almost always the silent switch or a Focus.

Good to know

How it works, and what’s yours.

How do I set up a QR or NFC mission?

Pick QR or NFC while you're building an alarm. For QR, Rizen generates a signed code you save or print — tape it somewhere across the room (the bathroom mirror is a classic). For NFC, you write to a cheap tag once, then stick it on the fridge or coffee machine. After that, scanning or tapping it is how you kill the alarm. You'll need camera permission for QR and NFC permission for tags.

Do I need an account or a login?

No. No account, no login, no password to forget. Rizen is local-first — your alarms, settings, and streak live on your iPhone and never get uploaded. The trade-off: nothing syncs between devices, and if you delete the app, your alarms and streak go with it.

Where is my data, and how do I delete it?

On your phone, and only your phone. No cloud, no sync, no copy on our end. To wipe everything, use Factory reset in Settings, or just delete the app — both clear your alarms, streak, and history for good. There's no "download my data" because there's nothing of yours sitting on a server.

Do you track me?

Lightly, and you can turn it off. We collect anonymous product analytics to see which features get used — no advertising ID, no name, nothing that points back to you. Don't want even that? Settings ▸ Privacy has a one-tap opt-out.

What exactly breaks my streak?

Three things, and only three: using Emergency Exit, failing or not finishing a mission, or missing a day entirely. Wake up the honest way and the number climbs. There's no secret fourth rule.

A permission is off. Where do I turn it back on?

In the iOS Settings app: Notifications live under Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ Rizen (needed for backup reliability on older iOS); Camera, Photos, and NFC each live under Settings ▸ Rizen; and on iOS 26+ you can let Rizen schedule system Alarms. One safety net — if a hardware permission is off when the alarm rings, that mission quietly falls back to Math, so you'll still have to get up, you just won't be locked out.

Which iPhones and iOS does Rizen support?

iPhone only, iOS 16.4 and up. You get the most bulletproof version — a true system alarm that pierces Silent, Focus, and DND even after a force-quit — on iOS 26 or newer. On 16.4 through 18 it backs the alarm with a burst of notifications instead, which is why the silent switch has to be off. Android isn't here yet; it's on the horizon.

I have an idea, or I found something weird. What do I do?

Both are welcome. Feature ideas and "this seems broken" both go to alarm@rizenhq.com, or drop them in our Discord if you'd rather think out loud with other early users. We read those.

Still stuck?

Couldn’t fix it? Send it our way.

No shame in it — some things need a human. The more of this you give us up front, the faster we’ll get you sorted:

  • Your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings ▸ General ▸ About)
  • Which mission you were using — Math, QR, NFC, or Photo
  • What you expected, and what actually happened
  • When it happened — date and rough time (key for a missed alarm or lost streak)
  • Whether the silent switch was on, and if any Focus or Sleep mode was active
